“Have you ever thought about going to Pakistan?” I ask Ibrahim (photo right).
“What for?” he replies. “There’s no war in Pakistan.” Strange words from a flamboyant rebel who dolls up his eyes with kohl, as do many other warrior youths. Ibrahim may not fit the stereotype of an Afghan Muslim resistance fighter. But Ibrahim has just shot to death three Russian soldiers and has killed at least twenty men. “I like Kandahar,” says Ibrahim. “In Kandahar, there’s war.”
