The death squads often dump the mutilated corpses in the lava fields of El Playon behind the San Salvador volcano. It was a feast for carrion creatures that ate the flesh, leaving skeletons and bones strewn across the lava fields. An observer of El Playon told me, “The vultures go for the eyes, the dogs for the armpits.”
