El Salvador Civil War

Only two months after traveling with Atlacatl, the battalion committed the worst atrocity in El Salvador’s civil war. On December 11, 1981 in the village of El Mozote, Atlacatl units murdered approximately one thousand people. The villagers were executed systematically. First the men were tortured and shot. Then the women were killed. Finally, the children were executed. To this day, no one has been prosecuted for the El Mozote massacre.
